Shakeel Syed is the West Coast Regional Director for American Muslims for Palestine, a national education and advocacy organization based out of Washington D.C. that advocates for freedom and justice in Palestine. Shakeel Syed previously served as the founding Executive Director of Islamic Shura Council of Southern California for more than a decade, serving over 80 mosques and Islamic organizations in Southern California to foster the spirit and culture of working together. After his successful tenure at Islamic Shura Council, Shakeel Syed served as the Executive Director of Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD). He currently serves on the boards of Clergy & Laity for Economic Justice (CLUE) and Death Penalty Focus, and has previously served as Vice President of ACLU of Southern California. Shakeel Syed continues to challenge the issues of Islamophobia and xenophobia against immigrants and participated in a walking pilgrimage of Dreamers from Sacramento to Bakersfield.
